Wedding Planning Course Details

The Institute of Certified Wedding Planners is dedicated to providing students with a comprehensive training programme that will equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to plan wedding events. Our conceptual and real world training will give students insights and understanding on how to become effective wedding planners and even start their own wedding planning businesses.

We are proud to be the first wedding planning course in the world that integrates counselling and psychology workshops into our modules. This will teach students the soft skills needed when interacting with their clients and give them an edge in the wedding planning industry.

Students must be at least 18 years of age.

The course has a total duration of 45 hours (excluding the Final Presentation and any possible field trips that may be arranged).

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the Certified Wedding Planner programme, students will:

  • Understand the role of a professional wedding planner
  • Gain a basic understanding of the wedding industry.
  • Create business contracts, pricing, packages and presentation tools.
  • Identify the formula to structure and set-up a wedding planning business and operations.
  • Be proficient in skills such as budget planning, vendor selection and wedding design.
  • Be familiar with the industry specific terminology, communication and project management.
  • Have knowledge of vendor contracts
  • Be familiar with wedding design elements, fabrics and styles.
  • Understand how to market as an expert in the industry to gain PR attention.
  • Understand online marketing and how it applies to a wedding planner business.
  • Have knowledge of different wedding traditions and cultures and how to implement a couple’s ethnic background into the celebration.

Main Individual Project Requirements

A list of the client’s details and background will be given to students on the first day of the course. Throughout the course, students are to submit portions of what they have learnt and customized according to their clients. The final presentation will require them to collate and present all portions and is expected to be about 60 minutes long.

Mentoring Workshop 1 – 21 hours

The Wedding & Creative Industry (Module 1)

There is no single wedding concept that is suitable for all couples. Each couple is unique in their expectations and preferences and as a professional wedding planner, it is important to recognize and respect that. This module will enable you to understand the couple’s inclinations and requirements, thus allowing you to conceptualise the desired wedding outcome effectively and possibly exceed the expectations of the couple.

  • Lesson 1 – To Be a Wedding Planner – 3 hours
  • Lesson 2 – Building Wedding Concepts – 3 hours
  • Lesson 3 – Student Presentations – 3 hours

Dressing the Bridal Party (Module 2)

Every couple wants to look their best and be glamorous on their wedding day. For the bride, it is not just her gown, but also her hair, makeup and accessories that play integral roles in creating the perfect look for her. Similarly, the right suit, shoes and haircut for the groom will transform him into the fairytale Prince Charming. You will learn the different styles of wedding fashion that suit different themes and how to get the couple to look their best for the big day.

  • Lesson 1 – Bridal Attire – 3 hours
  • Lesson 2 – Groom & Bridal Party Attire – 3 hours
  • Lesson 3 – Makeup & Hair – 3 hours
  • Lesson 4 – Student Presentations – 3 hours

Our ICWP students visited a bridal boutique!

Besides learning about the different types of wedding gowns and the latest trends, they also got to try on some bridal gowns.

A bridal makeup specialist was invited to talk to students of ICWP.

Students learnt tips and tricks about bridal hair and makeup, such as how to best preserve flowers that would be used in the bride’s hair, or how they as wedding planners can work hand-in-hand with the makeup artist to help the bride look her best on her big day!

Mentoring Workshop 2 – 21 hours

Fundamentals of Wedding Planning (Module 3)

The location for solemnising the wedding is one very important decision that needs careful deliberation. This must accurately reflect the couple’s beliefs, traditions and personalities. We will walk you through the factors that need to be considered in choosing the location, the food and the beverage.

  • Lesson 1 – Wedding Traditions – 3 hours
  • Lesson 2 – Venues & Stationery – 3 hours
  • Lesson 3 – Food & Beverages – 3 hours
  • Lesson 4 – Student Presentations  – 3 hours

Knowing & Hiring Your Vendors (Module 4)

You will be equipped with creative techniques and skills that will enable you to transform the venue into the couple’s wedding fantasy. All your hard work will be worthwhile when the wedding that you have helped create enthralls the guests. This event only happens once-in-a-lifetime for the couple, so capturing this moment on film is important for lifelong memories.

  • Lesson 1 – Florist & Decorator – 3 hours
  • Lesson 2 – Photographer & Videographer – 3 hours
  • Lesson 3 – Entertaining your Wedding Guests – 3 hours

Mentoring Workshop 3 – 18 hours

Core of Wedding Planning (Module 5)

We will equip you with essential time management skills on top of financial and organisational skills, which are necessary for wedding planning. You will also learn the importance of and how to prepare the wedding checklist and the guests list.

  • Lesson 1 – Checklist & Timeline – 3 hours
  • Lesson 2 – Budget & Guest List – 3 hours
  • Lesson 3 – Managing the Wedding Day – 3 hours

Wedding Planning as a Business (Module 6)

Now that you have the skills to plan weddings, let us take you one step further. This module delves into the realm of starting a business, the adoption of good strategies, and how to plan and take care of the financial aspects of running a business such as handling a budget.

  • Lesson 1 – How to Market Your Business – 3 hours
  • Lesson 2 – 3 hours
  • Lesson 3 – 3 hours
