Wedding Planning Course Details

The Institute of Certified Wedding Planners is dedicated to providing students with a comprehensive training programme that will equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to plan wedding events. Our conceptual and real world training will give students insights and understanding on how to become effective wedding planners and even start their own wedding planning businesses.

Students must be at least 18 years of age.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the Certified Wedding Planner programme, students will:

  • Gain a basic understanding of the wedding industry
  • Understand the role of a professional wedding planner
  • Create business contracts, pricing, packages and presentation tools.
  • Identify the formula to structure and set-up a wedding planning business and operations.
  • Be proficient in skills such as budget planning, vendor selection and wedding design.
  • Be familiar with the industry specific terminology, communication and project management.
  • Have knowledge of vendor contracts
  • Be familiar with wedding design elements, fabrics and styles.
  • Understand online marketing and how it applies to a wedding planner business.
  • Have knowledge of different wedding traditions and cultures and how to implement a couple’s ethnic background into the celebration

Workshop A – 39 hours

This workshop focuses on the conceptualisation and actualisation of your couple’s wedding.  Not only will you learn how to kickstart the wedding planning process for your client, you will also learn how to work with the various vendors to make the couple’s dream wedding a reality. Throughout the modules, the key question that we will be addressing would be, “What is my role as a wedding planner? How do I add value as a wedding planner?”

Each lesson has a duration of 3 hours.

Module 1 – Venue

  • Lesson 1 – Food and Beverage
  • Lesson 2 – Floorplan
  • Lesson 3 – Event Order

Module 2 – Concept Designing

  • Lesson 1 – The Big Idea
  • Lesson 2 – Floral and Decor
  • Lesson 3 – Experiential Programme

Module 3 – Talents & Vendors

  • Lesson 1 – Gown and Suit
  • Lesson 2 – Hair and Makeup
  • Lesson 3 – Photography and Videography
  • Lesson 4 – Entertainment
  • Lesson 5 – Gifts
  • Lesson 6 – Transport and Accommodation

At the end of the workshop, there will be a group submission.

Deliverables – Styled Shoot

At the end of this workshop, students will work in groups to do a styled shoot!

This aims to give students a preview of what it is like to work with vendors. From designing the concept to sourcing for and working with vendors, we are excited to embark on this with our students.

Workshop B – 36 hours

This workshop focuses on the giving students an understanding of the groundwork that they need to prepare when starting their own wedding planning businesses. It gives them the opportunity to think about their business and begin drafting their timeline and action plan. Throughout the modules, the key question that we will be addressing would be, “What is my role as a wedding planner? Why should couples choose me to plan their wedding over other wedding planning companies?”

Each lesson has a duration of 3 hours.

Module 4 – Wedding Culture and Traditions

  • Lesson 3 – Wedding Traditions 2

Module 5 – Wedding Admin

  • Lesson 1 – Checklists and Timeline
  • Lesson 2 – Budget and Guestlist
  • Lesson 3 – Managing the Wedding

Module 6 – Other Aspects of the Business

  • Lesson 1 – How to Market Your Business
  • Lesson 2 – First Impressions Count!
  • Lesson 3 – Running Your Business as an Entrepreneur

At the end of the workshop, there will be an individual submission.

Deliverables – Action Plan and Timeline

At the end of the workshop, students will have an individual submission to complete.

The above duration of lessons exclude the Final Presentation assignment and any possible field trips that may be arranged for students.
